Get help with a wage problem

Three honest options, in the order most people should consider them. If you have not run the wage theft checkup yet, start there: it will tell you which of these fits your situation.

The free state option

The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry investigates wage theft at no cost to you, can order back pay, and does not require a lawyer. For small, clear-cut claims, one worker and one employer, this is usually the fastest path. Labor Standards: 651-284-5075 (or 800-342-5354), dli.laborstandards@state.mn.us.

How to file a DLI wage complaint

Ask a Minnesota wage attorney

Larger claims, situations affecting several coworkers, misclassification, and anything you would rather not face alone belong in front of an attorney. Attorney inquiries go through a separate compliance track and are never sold as marketing leads.

The attorney inquiry path is not open yet. Until it is, the DLI complaint process above is free and effective, the wage theft guide explains your rights, and the Minnesota State Bar Association runs a lawyer referral service.

Hurt at work, or punished for reporting it?

Wage problems tangled up with a work injury sit exactly where this site's builder practices. Dan Swenson is a Minnesota workers' compensation attorney at Robert Wilson & Associates, and you can send your situation directly to him.

This path is not open yet. Today, the Claim Checkup on MN Comp Buddy can take your work injury question, including the send-to-Dan case file.
